Dengue Fever and High Blood Pressure
First of all. I'm not a physician,Doctor, Medical student to write this article on Dengue fever. But I have been a Dengue patient for 16 days now from 2009/05/27 my age 26. weight 73kg hight 179cm Initial symptoms - fever, loss of appetite on food, vomiting (black/red) , diaria , sever muscle pain,
platelet count - drop from 136 to 14 *10^9 /L later increased ..
Dengue Antibody test Dengue antibody IgM - Positive Dengue antibody IgG - Positive.
I was admitted to Kandy Hospital Sri Lanka ward number 33 under two consultants physicians DR: Harith Wimalaratna DR: Rukman According to my knowledge I was given medicine to get rid of vomiting and some other... given penicillin 4 times a day ,
I have no family legacy of having high blood pressure (HBP) and I have never got a chance to check my HBP earlier in my life .
at initial days my BP appeared to be normal. But later it was recoded that I'm having a BP of 140/80 , 150/80 and on some days 160/80 , Tests I did Ultrasound scanning
The Cardiac echo test revielved that all the Cardiac functions normal . There has been no sign of HPB preexistence. Didn't reveal any structural cardiac pathology other than mild variation of mitral valve {this is all I could extract from the reports :) }
METHYLDOPA 500mg 2 tabs morning /evening nifedipine tablet 20mg morning/evening I have been continuing this for around 6 days and Yesterday I was discharged from the ward since my last readings of HBP was 130/80 , 120/55 , 140/80
yet I was instructed to measure blood pressure daily and continue the above medicine course . I heard that there were 2 other patients who have had HPB after Dengue and it was new consequent of Dengue fever . |
